"the Official, October 28th, 1991E.V. Pixilatin' Deadly Drolls": From Sunday, October 27 - Tuesday October 29, 1991E.V., I organized what's generally credited as the 1st multi-day PXL-2000 Festival. Drift Distribution probably organized a 1 day PXL fest prior to this & Gerry Fialka started the long-running PXL THIS festival more or less immediately after my multi-day one. I published a catalog for the festival which all attendees received & a VHS compilation of selected...

“mm 66 presents: PIANO” “mm” = “m(usic(ian’s))m(eetings)” & is pronounced mmmmmmmmm . These meetings were started by myself, tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE, in the fall of 2011 to revive a neglected pleasure in my life, the pleasure of hanging out casually with friends & listening to & talking about & playing music. In 2013 a CD was released entitled “MM 26” to showcase (m)usic by some of the more regular attendees of the mms. 2 uncerts (uncertainty...

"Artificial Unintelligence" Perhaps it started with Sargon of Akkad in 2300 BC. There have been so many conquerors. They all slaughtered in the interest of homogenizing humanity around their cultural dominance. By the 20th century, the mayhem approached the ability to anihhilate all humans & most other life. Perhaps tempered by this possibility, the imperialism moved into the cultural sphere more. Hollywood movies globally ruled the markets. Fast Food restaurants...

"Light Show (of Sorts) 2" - Intermittently from Friday, August 25, 2000 through 'til July 4, 2003, I projected a total of 10 multiple-projector light shows from the projection booth in the theater of the Andy Warhol Museum. Sometimes the performers requested specific films from the Warhol ouevre, usually I projected my own work in addition to whatever was requested. In those years I biked the 3.5 miles to work over hilly terrain with as much as 25 pounds of gear & movies on my...

"Where We're" is probably one of the strangest movies ever made. Even beginning to explain & describe it is problematic for me. I strung together found filmstrips, found 35mm film, & my own filmstrips into one long filmstrip that's over 2 hours when projected just as that. It seems likely to me that it's the only feature-length experimental filmstrip — or that it, at least, was so at the time I made it from October, 1998, to December, 1999. At 1st, it was just the...

I learned about the idea of "spectral evidence" in Salem where dream 'evidence' was enough to convict people during the Witch Trials. Sociopathic young women could claim that they saw a person they knew with a cat in their dream - thusly 'proving' that the accused had a 'familiar', an animal that assisted with their witchcraft. "HiTEC 061-063 — Visionary Arts Festival": HiTEC (Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative) was originally proposed as "Sonic Aughts Union" by tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE after a May 2008 gig in the Carnegie Public Library Oakland branch with separate sets by t,ac; Margaret Cox; Rick Gribenas; & Steve Boyle. The name was a take-off on the Sonic Arts Union, a group that t,ac admired. The original SAU had 4 main members who only did solo pieces & never collaborated...

"UNDERAPPRECIATED Day 1": In January, 2018, I conceived of an UNDERAPPRECIATED MOVIEMAKERS FESTIVAL. This idea appealed to me immensely partially because I thought it was an interesting curatorial spin to choose work not on the basis of what type of movie it was (say: experimental, documentary, trash, horror, Asian, Queer, etc) but on whether the moviemakers themselves considered themselves & their work to be UNDERAPPRECIATED. As the criteria that I would judge the entries by...

I've been uploading, in chronological order, all movie documents relevant to my small orchestra, HiTEC (Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative). So far, that's been 67 movies if I include both the long & the short versions of some things. HiTEC's 1st big public performance was at the New Hazlett Theater on January 9, 2009. That presentation was well-received by a reasonably large audience. As such, I was asked by the director of the theater, Sara Radelet, if I'd like to curate a...

“HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS” is the middle movie of a series of 3 movies that get progressively shorter. The 1st one, which is on YouTube, is called “mm 67 presents: HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS”. That one presents a feature-length version of a m(usic(ian’s))m(eeting) at which 3 friends listen to works that use HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS as (m)usical instruments, watch movies on YouTube that do the same, & play objects in the room in which this is taking place as (m)usical instruments. This shorter...

"Infinite Monkey Theorem" is System 31 in HiTEC's "Systems Management". HiTEC is an acronym for "Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative" which I (tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE) founded in July, 2008, & which ended in March, 2010. The purpose of HiTEC was to try to get a sizeable group of people to simultaneously conduct thought experiments & to produce a collective sound/action as a result. This movie is made from HiTEC realizations of "Infinite...

"The Ticket that Exploded @ the library": When I was 15, probably in the summer of 1969, I heard the band Soft Machine's song "Hope for Happiness" on Baltimore rock radio & loved it. As I recall, most Baltimore radio was abysmal so I found Soft Machine to be of exceptional quality. It wasn't until perhaps 5 years later that I realized that the band had gotten their name from a William S. Burroughs novel. I read the book & was astounded. It was shocking.....

Radio 2000: 2000 was a fantastic year for me because my collaborator etta cetera & I got to go to Malaysia & Australia & were very, very busy there for 3 months. Our initial motive for going there was to participate in, & basically CREATE, what became (un)known as the "1st Non-Existent International Neoist Apartment Festival in the Year 000". The 1st radio presentation was in Adelaide, where the festival was(n't) happening. Through our host, Karen Eliot, we were...

"Driving Long Distance with MM 26": In 2011, I started a series of (m)usician's meetings at my house & elsewhere to discuss, listen to, & play (m)usic. Ahh.. the simple pleasures of life. In 2013, a group of the regular attendees released a CD of samples of our work. I think the CD is excellent. On March 28, 2020 Vision, I had to drive long distance to the burial of the ashes of a relative. They didn't die from COVID-19. Because of the PANDEMIC PANIC & the...

"made 4 tv version of Attempt 2 Score Sum Action 4 Daily Living": In the beginning of 1978 I proposed to a group of 7 friends that each of them propose an action for us both to perform simultaneously at a set time of the day but in different locations. The 7 friends were: Sumu Pretzler (Doug Retzler), Polio Vasslene (Paula Gillen), Lily Pad (Beth Downey), Chas (Charlie Brohawn), Laurie Stepp, Adolpho at Fuji (Alfred...

"School of Negativity": I was getting some supplies from a store when I noticed that they had black canvases for sale. This inspired me to imagine painting in negative. I've generally found the QUARANTYRANNY oppressive & the emphasis on masks suffocating so it occurred to me that this might be a good time to create a "School of Negativity". Always trying to think of new activities to keep my friend Breen & I entertained & sane during these times I further...

"Baby Bunny" - Let's face it, a tiny baby rabbit is about as cute as it gets.. but humans can be pretty endearing too, especially when they're just out on the rivers having some friendly conversation & doing a little river clean-up errand, so I might as well throw them in the mix too. Not, admittedly, one of my more intellectually challenging movies but, HEY!, I can enjoy relaxing every once in a while too - as long as I don't make a habit of it. - August 8, 2022 notes from...
